Earl Beatty, chairman of the London executive of the Navy League, •paid a call on the Minister of Defence, Hon. F. Jones, yesterday, and will be received: by the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, this morning. Dr. C. Gordon Kemp has returned to Wellington after spending a holiday in tlie South Island. Mr. W. A. Armour returned to Wellington from the South Island yesterday. y
The Hon. F. E. O'Flynn, M.L.C., Christchurch, arrived at Wellington yesterday from Lyttelton.
'Mr. A. S. Richards, M.P. for Roskill, arrived at Wellington from the south yesterday.
Mr. D. C. Peacock, Wellington, was among the passengers by steamer from Lyttelton yesterday.
Mr. N. -S. Falla, chairman and managing director of the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, Ltd., is visiting Dunedin.
Commander C. 11. T.'Palmer, president of the Auckland branch of the Navy League, has arrived at Wellington to attend the Dominion conference of the league.
Mr. W. A. Hislop, general manager for New Zealand of Universal Picture Proprietary, Limited, returned to Wellington yesterday from a visit to Auckland.
Paymaster-Commander G. C. G. Marfell, of the Admiralty survey ship Endeavour, who is a patient in an Auckland private hospital, is stated to be making satisfactory progress.
Mr. Victor Hugo, paymaster of the Auckland Metropolitan Fire Brigade and formerly of Wellington, and a prominent Auckland sports official, has entered the Auckland Hospital to undergo an operation.
Dr. R. Stuart Jones, a well-known Sydney surgeon, will arrive at Auckland by the Oronsay today. While in New Zealand he intends to interview the Prime Minister, .Mr. Savage, on aspects of the national health insurance scheme.
Mr. A. D. Robbie, who recently terminated an association of 35 years with the Government Printing Office, was presented witli a wallet by his fellow workers. Mr. Robbie was president of tlie Typographical Union during 1607-08.
Mr. G. Lockwood, of the Police Department headquarters staff, who recently left to take up a position witli tlie Department of Agriculture in Gisborne, was presented with a memento by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. I). J. Cummings, on behalf of .Mr. Lockwood’s colleagues.
Dr. R. C. Gillie, former president, of the National Council of tlie Evangelical Free Churches and a former .Moderator of the Presbyterian Church, of England, accompanied by Mrs. Gillie, has left Welllingtoii for Auckland. Dr. Gillie will occupy the pulpit at St. David’s Church for about eight months during tlie absence abroad of the Rev. W. Bower Black.
