Wellington Regiment Prepares For Can

WEEKEND BIVOUAC

The Wellington Regiment’s first parade of the year was a heartening sight to officers and N.C.O.’s. The numbers on parade now tax the accommodation of the Garrison Hall. All companies were busy on final preparations for the annual camp at Waiouru from January 28 to February 11. In H.Q. company the transport section was engaged on convoy drill and the motor-cycle platoon on mapreading, as these sections will travel by road to the camp area. During the weekend a party of N.C.O. s and men from B Company held a refresher course in section-leading outside Johnsonville. Two officers attended to eet problems aud act as umpires, but the administrative side was run entirely by the men under the direction of Sergeant McCurdy. Ground sheets and rations only were provided and the experience of active service conditions and fending for themselves was enjoyed by all. On Saturday afternoon attack formation were practised and a/ter dark two night attacks were carried out. On the Sunday morning fire control and fire and movement and in the afternoon a platoon attack provided'material for discussion and useful criticism. Major C. D. George visited the bivouac on the Sunday and expressed appreciation of the men’s keenness to fit themselves ■ for camp. Corps of Signals.

The Corps of Signals held the first parade of this year in' the Garrison Hall, Buckle Street, recently. ■ The attendance was again very good, After inspection, 15 minutes was devoted to infantry training under Staff-Sergeant Fraser and Sergeant McNab. The remainder of the time ■was spent .on -signal training under the section commanders.

The following postings and promotions have been gazetted:— Promotions: Lt. L. Marshall to be captain from August, 1938; Sergeant McNab to act company sergeant-major from January 17, 1939; Corporal Philpott to be N T .C.O. in charge of cable wagon detachment.

Transfers: Acting-C.S.M. M. J. Philpott to sergeant-fitter. Postings: Signalman Harrison to No. 2 Recruit Section; Signalman Miller to No. 3 Recruit Section.

The next ordinary parade will be held on Monday. A special whole-day parade will be carried out on Sunday, February 10, at Paremata.
