Dull conditions prevailed on the M ellingtou Stock Exchange yesterday, and the turnover was small. There was a slackening in the demand for Government stocks, the 31 per cents, being most favoured. A gain of 11/3 was el ?own tn a sale of 31 per cent, stock, March 1939-43 a late sale being reported at ±99/11/3 as against one at £99 earlier in the day. Banks were weaker, a late sale of New Zealands being reported at 38/3, compared with 39/2 on Thursday and 40/- a fortnight ago. E.S. and A.’s were marked down to £5/2/-, and New South Wales to £3O, while Australasias were on offer at £9/13/-. . . w n There was a good inquiry for u oollens and other textile issues at firm rates. Bond’s Hosiery moved up to_ 17/- and Kaiapoi Woollens to 8/3. N.Z. Drugs firmed to 63/9, sellers asking 65/6. Australian issues were neglected and there was a heavy selling list.
