LIFE-SAVING WORK

Finance For Societies

LEGISLATION PROPOSED An announcement that he intended to ask the Government’s assent to the preparation of legislation placing the life-saving societies in the same category as the fire brigades for finance was made by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Parry, yesterday. “Every swimmer is a potential lifesaver whose work is done not from any spirit of heroism but from the spirit of humanitarianism,” Mr. Parry said. "The work of the life-savers is noble; it is necessary, but what practical public support do they receive? From my knowledge many of these men have used their own personal resources with which to equip their stations. That should not be, and must be rectified.”
