Foreign Successes. Discussing the question of the suecess of foreign horses on the English turf in tile 1938 season, "Fairway.’’ in the London ’‘Sunday Times." says:— "Surely the three real renson.s for the success of so many foreigners are: — (1) Our horses are over-raced as two-year-olds. (2) Stamina has been .sacrificed for speed to such an extent that a miracle would be required if n number of horses bred in this country were to be capable of staying more than six furlongs. (3) Tlie incentive to breed stayers is so small.

“Though two-year-old races, till after (lie Grand I’rix in France, are confined to Selling Plates, the French certainly do not believe in wrapping their horses in cotton wool. They believe in the survival of the fittest, which is surely to the advantage of posterity. At any rale, a very sturdy type of horse has resulted from these methods, and though we can keep them out of the .Stud Rook we cannot keep them out of the winning enclosure.”

To Spell Here. Actor, the French*'horse imported to Victoria by Mr. Sol Green, has completed a light season at the Underbank Slud at Bacchus Marsh, and is to be sent to New Zealand next month for three months’ holiday at M. Grogan’s Grange Stud. Wanganui. Mr. Green's experiment in sending his other importation, Lo Zingaro, to the Dominion for a holiday last season proved so suecess’ful that he decided to adopt similar plans with Actor. Accordingly the French horse will be shipped to New Zealand on February 8.
