HYDATIDS CAMPAIGN
Travelling Exhibit To Tour North Island An exhibit showing the effects Of and the means of prevention of hydatids is being sent through, the North Island as part of the campaign against this disease. It illustrates by actual specimens the ravages of the disease in men and animals and shows how hydatids is spread by dogs. In conjunction with the exhibit Dr. E. W. Bennett, of the University of Otago Medical School, is giving addresses and demonstrations how’ to dose dogs for hydatids. A cinefilm is being shown and Includes photomicrographs, taken through the eye of a microscope, showing the living parasites in hydatids cysts in the livers and lungs of sheep and cattle. These photomicrographs will be shown for the first time at the Levin Show' this week, though the other cinema films included in the exhibit have been seen by about 20,000 people. It is not the first time that a moving picture has* been made of the hydatids parasites at work, but this film is a much better one than the previous attempts made in Australia. It was produced in Dunedin at the Medical School.
The exhibit will be shown in Levin tomorrow and on Saturday, in Feeding on January 31 and February 1, in Dannevirke on February 7 and 8, and in Pukekohe on February 17 and 18. It was seen last spring at various South Island shows but so far has only been shown in the North Island in Hamilton, last October.
