VANCOUVER. January 24. A dance in a nearby town, attended by most of I he 100 residents of the mining town of Hedley, British Columbia, saved scores of lives when an overhanging cliff crashed 1000 ft., engulfing nine houses.

A man named Peter Strand and his housekeeper, Johanna Green, were trapped and killed. Twenty-three others. including 11 children, were nvotised by the rear of the full auU tied to safely in their night attire. The merrymakers, returning an hour afterward, found their homes buried.
