MARTON SHOW

Exceptionally High Standard Of Stock ENTRIES A RECORD Many Thousands Attend In Ideal Weather Dominion Special Service. MARTON, January 25. Record entries and ideal weather marked the opening of the twenty-sixth annual Show he'd 'by. the Marton District Agricultural and Pastoral Association in Marton today. An exceptionally high standard of stock characterized all sections of the exhibits, and this afternoon and tonight many thousands attended the show from the surrounding district. The horse section was well suported and the hunting and ring competition events were keenly contested. A feature of the show was the interest displayed in the calf-rearing classes and the young farmers’ judging competition. The home industries section was again a well-supported exhibit and the standard this year was said to be higher than ever before; the primary schools division, with its displays of drawing, design and general handwork, received more than 100 entries and the judging was no easy task. Highland dancing, 11 reworks and harrier racing this evening provided plenty of entertainment for the large crowd and the Wanganui Pipe Band 'Mis in attendance. All stewards and other officials wore emblems of remembrance for Mr. Peter Miller, Marton, because of his death in Marton on Monday. Mr. Miller had been a member of the association almost since its foundation and was a steward for many years.
