Details Of Canterbury Junior Team Keen interest is being taken iu the annua! athletic contest to be held between teams representing the Canterbury and Wellington Amateur Athletic centres, which will be held on the Basin Reserve, ’Wellington, on Saturday. The president of the Wellington Centre, Mr. A. C. Kitto, yesterday received further particulars concerning the members of the Canterbury team front Mr. R. Beattie, ol the Canterbury centre. “D. Shaw Ims just left Ashburton High Sehuol,'.’ Mr. Beattie wrote. “He won tlie mile Canterbury junior championship last year in 4.32 1-5, and_this year he was second in Titnaru off syds. in 4.24 2-5. He was approximately .10 yards away, so was running under 4.28. Matthews's time as a schoolboy was 4.29 2-5, and Boot’s 4.26. He does not look impressive, but can stay. "Dickie won the 880yds. junior championship last year in 2.3 1-5, beating Shaw, but he is concentrating ou the longer distances. He is a reasonable three-miler. “R. Thompson is still at West Christchurch High School. He won the intermediate 100yds. al the intersehool sports, and should run 10 3-5 uow. “W. Christensen has left school. He was third in the 440yde. junior last year, and should make it pretty good performer. "Huy is .18, the oldest of the juniors, and has left school. “Our brilliant juniors at the school sports —Armstrong. lOOyds.; Ross Smith, 220yds. ami 440yds.; and J. Lang Wood, 88Oyds. and one mile—are all turned 19 now. Wood is going up for the open events. Smith is on holiday on the Coast. These two should eventually turn out champions. "Bluett is 19 or 20, and shows promise, specially when he builds up a bit.” Mr. Kitto stated that the junior team which Wellington would field on Saturday would be the strongest which had represented the centre during his long connexion with athletics.
