FIVE YEARS WITHOUT SLEEP
A 69-year-old odd-jou man. Isaac Wilbur, Orleans. Massachusetts, has filtered his sixth year without sleep, States the New Turk correspondent of the "Daily Express.” When Ike, as lie is known to his friends, was a youngster, he found lie could earn more money 'by working the clock round, so he trained himself to do without sleep. Now he cannot sleep at all? He has not slept a wink since (Deeeiulber, 1933. "I am getting old. now.” lie said, "and I’d like to have a nap, but I guess it's no go. The nights are pretty long, and I guess it's my own Jiiuit. “I close my eyes just to rest them, but 1 never really sleep.”
■When he was a youth lie found he could work day and night for three months with only one hour’s sleep in 24. In 1928 he read in a magazine (hat .nobody could go 80 days without sleep. That struck him as ridiculous, and to prove it he went sleepless for 83 days and nights. The following year he bettered his own record, staying awake 147 days. And in 1934 lie completed his first year without sleep.
