PENALTY ON RATES

To avoid the imposition of a 10 per cent, penalty on rates payable to the Wellington City Council, ratepayers are advised" by the Town Clerk to have their payments made on or before February 27, 1939. The penalty will accrue from February 28. The Wellington City Council is empowered to take this action by section 76 of The Rating Act, 1925, which resolved that an additional charge of 10 per centum should be added to all rates unpaid at the expiration of six months and 14 days from demand thereof, and should be payable and recoverable accordingly.
