THIRD INTOXICATION OFFENCE
Driver Sent To Prison
LICENCE SUSPENDED FOR
FIVE YEARS
By Telcgniph—Press Association,
CHRISTCHURCH, January 24'
’Two months’ imprisonment and suspension of his driving licence for five years was the penalty inflicted on Raymond Murray Watson, aged 48, when he appeared in court today on a charge of being intoxicated in charge of a car on January 20. Watson had been convicted twice previously for intoxication in charge within the last four years. In reply to a plea by counsel for leniency, the magistrate, Mr. E. C. Levvey, said, he did not feel any particular hesitation in imposing sentence. In most intoxication-in-charge cases one warning was more than sufficient. Accused had been dealt with twice since 1935; once he had been treated leniently and on the other occasion he was dealt with severely.
