COVENT GARDEN RUSSIAN BALLET
The famous Covent Garden Russian Ballet will open its 'Wellington season of 11 nights at the Grand Opera House on February 18. Altogether 14 brilliant ballets will be presented during the night performances and special matinees. Fokine’s latest creation “Ccndrillon” will appear on the first programme. “Cendrillon” is the fairy story of Cinderella, the plot falling into three gorgeous scenes. The first is the departure of the Ugly Sisters to the Prince’s ball, and Cinderella’s exit in the pumpkin coach —an orchestral interlude, the music by Frederic d’Erlanger, describing the journey. The second is that of Cinderella’s triumph at the ball. And thirdly there is the desperate search by the Prince for the owner of the shoe.
The choreography, the costumes and the scenery, allied to tjie haunting beauty of the music played by a full symphony orchestra, make of Cinderella a ballet of more than ordinary expression. Further particulars regarding the season will he published in “The Dominion” on Saturday.
