MAUI POMARE PUTS BACK
Departure For Islands Delayed
ANCHORS FOR ENGINE ADJUSTMENTS
The Government motor-ship Maui Pomare, which left Wellington soon after 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon for Apia and Niue Island, put back from the Heads and anchored in Worser Bay for engine adjustments. She finally sailed at 10.25 p.m.
The Maui Pomare Inis passengers and freight for the islands. At twenty minutes to 0 o'clock watchers saw her heading at, apparently, full speed toward the harbour mouth. Suddenly she turned from her course, headed for Worser Bay, and anchored some distance off-shore.
Having recently undergone overhaul and survey at Wellington. Ute Maui Pomare was making her first voyage after the resumpt ion of the service. She evidently experienced engine trouble, for an officer of the External Affairs Department stated last night that she had put in to the bay to make some adjusments to her machinery. The trouble was not serious.
