Despite a strong and gusty wind, there were some keen finishes at Hataitai Park on Saturday afternoon, when the athletic sub-committee of the Wellington Centre of the N.Z.A.A.A. held a graded scratch meeting. Dominion Special service WANGANUI, January 21. . A clear ami cool night favoured the open-air night meeting held on Cook's Gardens by the Wanganui Amateur Athletic- and Cycling Club tonight, when visiting competitors from- Wellington and other districts gave a fine display before a crowd of about 600. A feature of the evening, was C. McKaskeli’o attempt on the 440yds. standingstart cycle record. McKnskell, a Christchurch rider, made two efforts tojestabl isli a record : his first time was 30 l-ssec., and the second 30 4-ssec. The first time was better than any'recorded by a New Zealander, but it was 2-s#>ec: slower than the record. A. A. Pennington. Wellington, also made an attempt on the record, but bis time was 30 2-ssec. The mile relay between Wellington mid Wanganui was won by Wellington in 3min. 46sec.. arid the Wellington man finished well ahead of the Wanganui representative in the final section of SBO yards.
