Intermediate Players Do Well In Senior Games

COMBINED WELLINGTONKILBIRNIE TEAM

Many fine performances were given by interinialiate grade players in senior matches played under the control ol the Wellington Women’s Cricket Association at Prince of Wales Park on- Saturday, The weather was? line and sunny, with a light north-westerly breeze. Wickets were inclined to be bumpy. Wellington defaulted to College . Old Girls and combined with the Kilbirnie intermediate team to play Old Girls in a friendly match. T.O.G. v. Y.W.C.A. Technical Old Girls, 160, beat Y.W.C \ 40 The Technical team was superior in all departments Technical’s bowler E. J- Holmes, flighted the bad well and gave a good display of turning in from the off. She took four wickets for no runs. H. Buck was right on form as usual, and her knock of aT included eb'ht fours. She gave a fine display ot on-driving, and hit some nice square cuts Y W.C.A. was considerably weakened by the absence of W. Tasker and B Nash. Though their fielding tor the most part was weak, J. Diack at cover and 0. Whitelaw at square leg did well One of the most consistent bowlers of the day was E. Page, who included four maiden overs in the 17 she bowled for Y.W.C.A. She took two wickets for 34 runs E. Purdie, an intermediate grade player, also bowled well for Batting for Technical, H. Buck made 57 J. Holmes 36, M. Simpson 28, aud A. Eli 18 not out. Bowling for Technical, J Holmes took four wickets for 6 runs, A. Eli three for 14, and P. Sampson three for 20. Bowling for Y.W.C.A., E. Furdie took three wickets for 45 runs, O. Whitelaw two for 30, and E. Page two for 34.

C.O.G. v. Combined Teams. College Old Girls, 248 for nine wickets, declared, beat a combined Kilbirnie intermediate aud Wellingtou team, 71, in a friendly mutch. The score in this watch was no indication of play, the combined team putting up a very strong opposition to Old Girls. The fielding of M. Wilkens, E. Daniells and H. Asheudeu, who was a Welliugfou representative last season, for the" combined team, was particularly bright. Miss Asheudeu also did well as a bowier, taking one wicket for six runs. An intermediate player, J. Hudson, showed great promise as a bowler. Though her direction was inclined to be erratic at times, she bowled well to take four wickets for 65 runs. For Old Girls, P. Pilcher hit up 65 not out. Though she gave a few chances, her innings was a breezy one, and she compiled the runs in quick time. 1. Lamasou also batted and bowled well, taking six wickets for 12 runs Another good batting performance was that given by D. Hatcher, who made her 53 in less than 30 minutes. Old Girls’ fielding was of a high standard. Batting for Old Girls, P. Pilcher made 65 not out, D. Hatcher 53 (retired), and I. Lamason 37 (retired). Batting for Combined Teams, E. Daniells made 28. and H. Ashendeu 28. Bowling for Old Girls, I. Lamason took six wickets for 12‘ runs, and D. Hatcher three for 10. Bowling for Combined Teams, J. Hudson took four wickets for 65 runs. INTERMEDIATE. Technical College Day Girls, OS and 102 runs fof five wickets, beat Aitkens, 37, at Tanera Crescent. Batting_ for Technical, M. Eeles made 31 and 15, Y. Kirk 29, and J. Prestney 46 (including six fours). Bowling for Technical, M. Eeles took four wickets for 12 runs, U. Renner three for 12, and Y. Kirk, two for eight. Bowling for Aitkens, J. Aitken took four wickets for 39 runs and two for 45, and M. Smith three for 34. Kilbirnie beat Y.W.C.A. by default. Trinity beat Hutt by default. Midland, 225 for seven wickets, declared (A. Yates 75, A. Marganti 56), bent Hutt United, 146 (J. Forsyth 57). Bowling for Midland, Yates took four for 44; for Hutt pnited J. Williams took three for 68. JUNIOR. College OM Girls, 116, neat Technical Old Girls, 74, at Prince of Wales Park. Batting for College Old Girls, B. Stewart made 52 (including 11 fours), and J. Oxley 22. Batting for Technical, J. Silk made 26. Bowling for College Old Girls, B. Stewart took three wickets for 17 runs,’ and J. Oxley two for 31. Bowling for Technical, V. Ellis took five wicketp for 52 runs, and J. Silk five for 40. Onslow, 137, beat Randwick, 58, at Hutt Park. Batting for Onslow, K. Hodgson made 38, D. Strickland 25, and D. Hill 22. Batting for Randwick, M. Marshall made 16. Bowling for Onslow, D. Hill took four wickets for 27 runs, and N. Kelly three for 20. Bowling for Randwick, P. Marshall took five wickets for 53 runs, and G. Marshall two for 34.
