SCOTTISH REGIMENT

Wellington Celts Pleased Wellington Scottish societies have expressed keen appreciation of the Government’s approval of the formation of a Scottish regiment with companies in each of the four centres. They have pledged themselves to help find money for uniforms and recruits for the regiment as soon as the Defence Department is ready. At a recent meeting of the Wellington Association of Scots Societies, the chairman, Mr. J. G. MacKenzie, stated that since the deputation from the affiliated societies and other. Scottish interests, representing those both Home and colonial born, had waited on the Minister on September 8, there had been a number of conferences with the officers of the Defence Department. The conditions attached to the formation’of the unit were satisfactory both to the department and the Scottish community.

The association passed a resolution expressing its appreciation of the action of the Government in approving of the formation of the Highland unit. It decided to take active steps both to find the extra cost of uniforms, hud to enroll recruits from the Scottish youth in the district, once the department completed its arrangements for the acceptance of the unit.
