Talent displayed by younger players was the most noticeable feature in the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association’s annual tournament, which concluded today after rain yesterday afternoon interrupted finals of matches then In progress. Championship winners were : —Men’s singles: W. T. Pountney (Auckland), who beat M. Ferkins (Wellington) in the final; women’s singles: Miss N. Beverley ; men’s doubles: R. Chisholm and W. Boddy; women’s doubles: Mrs. J. H. MacDonald and Miss N. Beverley; mixed doubles: W. Hooper and Miss N. Beverley ; boys’ singles: B. J. Kelly; girls’ singles: Miss B. Potter, N. SMITH WINS MEN’S SINGLES Hawke’s Bay Tournament Dominion Special Service. , WAIPUKL'RAU. January 15.

The Hawke's Bay provincial men's tennis title was won by N. Smith (Wellington) when the tournament concluded in Waipukurau today. Smith's win came after a hard battle with D. Rose, also of Wellington, in the final of the champion,ship singles, the score being 1-6, 6-1. * *A young Silverstrenm player not yet 18 years of age, .J. Shepperd, put up a splendid exhibition throughout in the handicap section and won the men s sin-

gles event. Conditions for play were more suitable than previously oti the concluding day. Championships were won as follows:-— Men's singles: N. Smith (Wellington); women’s singles: Miss Macfarlane (Auckland) ; men's doubles: Smith and Hummer (Wellington); women's doubles: Miss Glcnny (Hawke’s Bay) » n, l Miss Macfarlane '(Auckland) ; mixed doubles: Lowry (Hawke’s Bay) and Miss Macfarlane (Auckland).
