GROWING ANARCHY ALL OVER WORLD
Herriot’s Warning To
France
(Received January 13, 10.30 p.m.)
PARIS, January 13.
M. Herriot, a former Socialist Premier, in a remarkable inaugural speech; today after his election to the Presidency of the Chamber, warned France that civilization was threatened by growing anarchy all over the world.
“Our age,” lie said, “has shown a return to the cruellest periods of the past. Political and religious liberty is besieged. Persecution is rife.” He thanked the Pope and President Roosevelt for making a stand against violence.
He said that there was no French'man who did not desire peace, but a free people could not allow their frontiers to be the subject of bargaining. France hoped for better relations with Germany after the recognition of her frontiers. “
