NEW AMBASSADOR TO TURKEY

Sir Hughe Knatchbull-Hugessen has been appointed Ambassador at Angora.
Sir Hughe Montgomery KnatchbullHugessen, when Britain’s Ambassador to China, was seriously wounded by machine-gun fire from attacking Japanese aeroplanes while travelling to Shanghai from Nanking on August 26, 1937. He was appointed Ambassador to China in 1936, the year in which he received a knighthood. ;
Sir Hughe was educated at Eton and Balliol, and entered the Foreign Office in 1908. In 1926 he was appointed Counsellor to tire British Embassy at Brussels —a post he held for four years. He then became British Minister to the Baltic States, remaining there till 1934, when he became British Minister in Tehran, Iran. It was from there that he was appointed Ambassador to China.
