JEWISH REFUGEES
Arrival By Maetsuycker
By Telegrapli—Presg AaSoeiation,
AUCKLAND, January 12.
Eleven Jewish refugees from Germany and Austria arrived by the motor-ship Maetsuycker today. Among them are two Berlin doctors —Dr. J. Weiser, who is accompanied by his wife, and Dr. D. Kaliman, who is travelling alone. They intend to study for three years at the Otago Medical School to qualify for practice in New Zealand.
Two other refugees have come to live in New Zealand ; the others are going to Sydney. All the refugees are reticent. One said he left Germany in September. “Lots may have happened since then, and really I have forgotten what the conditions in September were like,” he added with a smile.
