Mr. Armstrong’s Work As Minister Of Labour
Some of the biggest and most important alterations of the labour laws (if the Dominion had been the direct responsibility of Mr. Armstrong, said the Minister of Intermit Affairs, Mr, Parry, in paying a tribute to the work of Mr. Armstrong during the three years of his occupancy of the portfolio of Labour. when replying to a local body deputation yesterday. Parliamentarians, though not always agreeing with Mr. Armstrong's viewpoint. had ungrudgingly given him the credit due for the immense amount of work and fair fighting tie had put into the legislation he had sponsored in the House on behalf of the . Government. Mr. Parry said. ‘•Men in most avenues of employment iu New Zealand -today are entitled to be unsparing in expressing their appreciation and admiration of Mr. Armstrong’s great and successful light for the 10-hour week, for ibe allround and much-needed improvements made in the Coni]>eiisation for Accidents Act,, the Factories Act and in oilier industrial laws which had become notably archaic in the eyes and experience of both employer and cm ployeo
“Tn my view—and I know it is shared by many inside Parliament and by thousands outside the legislative balls —few men have occupied the portfolio of Labour with the distinct ion and well-merited success of Mr. Armstrong" Mr. Parry said.
