THREE-YEAR PLAN FOR JAPAN

Self-Sufficiency Drive TOKIO, January 10. Mr. K. Aoki, vice-president -of the National Planning Board, has presented the Cabinet with a three-year plan to expand productiveness. The Hong Kong correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” reports that 10,092 fishermen, representing 10 per cent, of the fishing population of Hong Kong, have been killed and 628 junks, valued at £500,000, have been destroyed as a result of the Japanese blockade near Hong Kong in the last 14 months. The majority of the junks were registered at Hong Kong and classified as British. Sixty per cent, of those killed were women and children. REPRISALS AGAINST JAPAN — & Reported British Plan LONDON, January 10. The Government is considering trade reprisals against Japan, says the “News-Chronicle’s” foreign editor. The exact form has not yet been decided, but the effect, combined with the already obvious unofficial boycott of Japanese goods, is expected to do further grave damage to Japans export trade.

DECLINE IN JAPANESE OVERSEAS TRADE

TOKIO, January 10. ■ Japan’s exports in '938 were £l7O, 000.000, a decline of £24,000,000. Imports totalled £160.000.000, a decline of £65,000,000. The figures include Mam chukuo and parts of China controlled by Japan.
