APPEALS FROM EUROPE
People seeking to escape from conditions in their own country frequently address appeals’ to the mayors of cities overseas. The Mayor of Wellington, Mr. Hislop, said yesterday that lie had received a number of letters from Germans and Austrians asking his assistance in finding a new home for them in Now Zealand. Each of the letters, which ho described as pathetic, bore the mark of censorship, lie felt himself unable to take the responsibility of assuring the writers that they would find a happy home in the Dominion.
