As a result of the first day’s play in the Wilding Shield challenge match, Auckland, holder of the trophy, has set Waikato a difficult proposition, and the visitors will have to stage a miraculous recovery to succeed. The Auckland players won all six matches decided today, four singles and two doubles. Following were the results: — ' Singles. , N. G. Sturt (Auckland) beat D. Clow (Waikato), 6-0, 6-0. „ N. F. Bedford (Auckland) beat F. Jenkinson (Waikato), 6-3, 6-1. J. T. Mayson (Auckland), beat D. Livingstonp (Waikato), 12-10, 6-4. J. W. Gunn (Auckland) beat J. Roach (Waikato)_, 6-2, 6-2. Doubles. Mayson and Sturt beat Clow and Jenkinson, 6-2, 6-4. Bedford and Gunn beat Livingstone and Roach, 6-0, 6-4.
