Efforts To Unify Various Organizations

INTERNATIONAL BODY TO BE SET UP By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright, (Received December 16, 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, December 16. A third party of 350 child refugees, aged between three and 17, mostly from Austria, arrived at Harwich today. Two hundred boys go to a camp in Lowestoft and 150 girls to a Dovercourt camp.

There are now more than 1000 Austrian and German child refugees in England. Two more shiploads are due before Christmas and one early in January.

After the admission of 2000 the flow’ will be halted till some have been drafted to families from the camps. Efforts to co-ordinate the various committees and organizations interested in the problem of the migration,of German Jews are to be made. Mr. Daniel Wolf, president of the International Jewish Colonization Society, has had talks with prominent British Jews and it has been decided to establish a representative international advisory committee and a board of trustees.

Tlie diplomatic correspondent of the “News Chronicle,” Mr. Vernon Bartlett, says that the areas which are now considered most suitable by officials for large-scale Jewish settlement are North-east Rhodesia, Angola, Lower California, Alaska, and British Guiana, and adds that important Jewish organizations are likely to send out commissions to investigate.

DISMISSALS BECAUSE OF JEWISH FAITH Employees Of Nazi Firms In London (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, December 15. Questioned in the House of Commons concerning cases in which British employees in the service of German firms in London are being dismissed in consequence of instructions from the German Goveraient not to employ'' persons of the Jewish faith after December 25, the Hqme Secretary, Sir Samuel Hoare, replied that he was aware that accusations had been made that the services of persons had been terminated by German firms on racial grounds, but he had no knowledge that instructions had been issued by Germany of the kind suggested.

He could give an assurance that permission would not lie given for the Importation by any firm of _ any foreigner to fill a place previously filled by anyone holding the necessary qualifications. Commander Fletcher,'the questioner, said: “I have two fully authenticated cases of such dismissals, in one of which g man with 17. years’ service in a firm was discharged and told by the manager that his discharge was on account of his faith only.” Sir Samuel Hoare replied that. if Commander Fletcher would send him particulars he would look into it. He would not allow an immigrant.to come Into England to take the place of a man who was discharged in such circumstances.

POOR GERMAN JEWS HARD PRESSED

Payment Of First Quarter Of £83,000,000 Fine

(Received December 16, 7.30 p.m.) BERLIN, December 16.

Today’s payment of the first quarter of the £83,000,000-fine on Jews "following the murder of Dr. von Rath were largely book transactions as far us the wealthy were concerned.

They were carried out by arrangements among the thanks and involved certain securities set out in an official list aud accepted at fixed quotations, or alternatively liquid casli or deposits. The poorer Jews, however, arc hard pressed to find the money. Some are negotiating mortgages, but others are unable to pay. -x_ All stocks, securities, and land titles owned by Jews must be deposited in accredited German banks by today.

U.S. NOTE TO REICH

Immediate Assurances Demanded

(Received .December 16, '1.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, December 15. The State Department, in a third note to the German Government during the last few weeks, demanded an innnediate assurance that American Jews residing in Germany will not be affected by the anti-Jewisli decrees. Tlu 1 Note expressed disappointment at Germany’s failure to give assurances in this matter, aud reminded Germany that the United States bf America has afforded German citizens equal rights with other foreign nationals.
