EQUIPMENT ISSUED
Upper Hutt Platoon
FURTHER ENLISTMENTS On Wednesday night members of the recently formed Upper Hutt platoon of the First Battalion the Wellington Regiment (City of Wellington's Own) were medically examined and issued with uniforms and Equipment. In addition to those who enlisted, at the inaugural meeting a week ago further enlistments were made which brought the platoon up to full strength. It is expected that, a second platoon will be formed in Hie district in the near future. The medical examining officer, Lieu-tenant-Colonel F. W. Kemp, said the standard of physical fitness was very high indeed. Even so he was certain that further physical benefits would result from the training they were to undergo. Major R. Wells, who is in command of “C” Company, to which the platoon will be attached, was in attendance and informally welcomed the men. An example of the appreciation by citizens of the fine public spirit shown by the men in coming forward aud enlisting for service was given at the end of the parade, when the company commander was presented with a substantial cheque by Lieutenant-Colonel Kemp. This money is to be expended in assisting with the development of the Upper Hutt platoon. At Buckle Street on Thursday night numbers of the Johnsonville section were medically examined and issued with their uniforms and equipment. It is hoped that a full platoon will be recruited in this area before the annual camp of the regiment takes place at the end of January.
