“There was some trouble outside an hotel in Grey Street on Thursday afternoon. and the licensee saw this man leaving the hotel with a parcel under his arm. As a result of the trouble he made good his escape, but when arrested later for drunkenness, the articles were found in his possession,” said S-üb-Inspector D. A.. McLean in the Magistrates’ Court. 'Wellington, yesterday, when James Forbes, steelworker, aged 40. was charged with drunkenness and theft. He was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment with hard labour by Mr. J. 11. Luxford. S.M. Forbes pleaded guilty of drunkenness, but not guilty of the theft of a pair of suede gloves, a pair of stockings, and two singlets, the property of Alexander 'William Cotter. He was convicted on both charges.
