STOLE FROM RAILWAY WORKSHOPS
Young Man Given A Chance
To give accused a chance because of his a”e and the state of his mother’s health, Mr. A. M. Goulding, S.M., suppressed the name of a young man, aged 20, who pleaded guilty in the Magistrates’ Court, Petone, yesterday to stealing 19 steel drills, 32 wood bits and brushes and pipe fillings to a value of £4/15/-, the property of the New Zealand Railways Department. He was admitted to probation for 18 months. Detective-Sergeant F. N. Robinson said that accused secured employment at the Hutt workshops some months ago, and was placed in the store. He then stole the articles by altering requisitions. All but 17/5 worth of goods had been recovered. Accused said he had given the unrecovered property to an older man at the workshops. This man denied the reception but there would possibly be a charge of receiving against him. For accused Mr. N. T. Gillespie said that he had been under the influence of an older employee.
