Social Afternoon Concludes

Year's Activities

Th final gathering for the year -of the Wellington Free Ambulance bridge circle took place yesterday afternoon at the Free Ambulance social rooms. The guest of honour was Mrs. Al. A. Searle, a member of the executive, who lias recently returned from two years spent in England and Europe. She was received -on her arrival by the hostesses, Mesdames R. IV. Atkin son, R. H. Ellis, and Miss S. Fraser.

A very cheery time was spent over games; and competitions, ami a particularly attractive tea was set-red. A beautiful Christmas cake, made by Mrs. Ellis, was cut by Mrs. Searle. In a brief speech Mrs. Atkinson welcomed Mrs. Searle back to the circle, and. in her reply. Mrs. Searle spoke of the splendid work done by Mrs. Atkinson, who founded the circle, and whose untiring efforts have been largely responsible for the sum raised by them toward the new ambulance. Mrs. Atkinson is retiring after four years as leader of the circle, and on behalf of the executive Mrs. Searle presented her with a beautiful Viennese toilet set. A presentation on behalf of the committee was made to Mrs. Prentice, who has voluntarily assisted at the bridge afternoons through-out the year. Mrs. W. H. Gledhill played the piano for the games, and the competitions were won by Mesdames C. W. Dixon, IV. Gledhill. Nelson, and C. IV. Mack. Family Party. Another party in honour of Mrs. Searle was given this week by her sons, Messrs. Rowland and George Searle, at James Smith’s tearooms. Relatives and close friends of Mrs. Searle were invited, and the guests were Lady Norwood, Mrs. E. J. Bethell and Miss Marjorie Betbell, Mesdames L. George. Walter Norwood, 0. IV. Mack, R. W. Atkinson, W. H. Gledhill, John Murray, B. Sutherland, Arthur Mack, J. R. Hocking, and Reay McKay.
