Theatre Manager Before Court Appearing for sentence on three charges of theft as a servant, Cyril Kempt, theatre manager, aged 28, was ordered by Mr. Justice Quilliam in the Supreme Court, Wellington, yesterday, to come up for sentence if called upon within two years. Mr. W. IL Birks appeared for tlie Crown, and Mr. AV. P. Rollings for the prisoner. Till the start of the trouble, Kempt had an excellent reputation, said Mr. Rollings. He was seven days late in banking one sum of money, and three other sums after that were not banked at all. The detection of the crimes seemed to have been due to his confession to his employers. His Honour told Kempt it was difficult to understand his motives. He had a good position and a good salari. and occupied a position of trust. He stole from his employers what was, in the aggregti:;'. a considerable sum of money, and gambled it away.
