RICCARTON GALLOPS
Willie Win In Excellent Order
Dominion Special Service. CHRISTCHURCH, December 13. Dry conditions prevailed at Riecarton today, and whereas the plough was not open a week ago because of its sodden condition, it had to be watered for today’s gallops, but nevertheless it pro- . vided fast going. The outside of the course proper was thrown open, and some attractive gallops were executed on it. Trench Fight, Paper Slipper, Good Passage, and Winning Rival were allotted strong working, gallops the reverse way on the plough, none being sent against time.
Going the right-handed way Counterblast strode over six furlongs in 1.16 4-5, and Wild Chase followed in 1.19 3-5, under restraint throughout. Great Flight was let off with a threefurlong sprint in 39 3-5. Sovereign Lady galloped a mile in 1,43. She is booked to go to Wingatui, in addition to Waikouaiti and Oamaru. Phalanx was allowed to stride along over six furlongs in 1.20, and his stable, mate, the two-year-old Not Out, did threequarter pace work. This colt by "Winning Hit and owned by his breeder, Mr. G. Gould, is well put together, and much interest will attach to his first appearance in public at Wingatui on Boxing Day. Lady Leigh executed a smart halfmile in 49 2-5, and Asset sprinted three furlongs in 37 2-5. Haughty Winner and Rabble finished abreast after covering six furlongs in ITS 2-5. Oamaru, recorded 1.17 3-5 for six furlongs. . ~ Willie Win and Defaulter.
Willie Win and Defaulter were responsible for an interesting mile gallop the reverse way on the outside of the course proper. They ran the first half-mile in 51. and completed the task in 1.43, with Willie Win finishing a length in front. Willie Win is undoubtedly in excellent order, and should give a good account of himself at Ellerslie. He goes north in charge of Mrs. J. Campbell on Friday. Defaulter will also be shipped to Ellerslie on Friday. Prudent Prince and Moorsotis again pleased by reeling off half -a mile in 49. The former is coming to hand satisfactorily, and should race well at Wingatui. Montessa and Miss Otis, who are also to go to Wingatui, recorded 50. Nigjit Dress finished in front of Night Hawk, with Rebel Star tailing off, at the end of six furlongs in 1.18 4-5. Synthetic ran half a mile in 50 3-5, and Miracle beat Malta Ahi in 51 3-5.
