A surplus of £578 ou the rear’s working was reported at the twentysixth annua] meeting of the Wellington Catholic Education Trust Board held in Wellington recently. The surplus was added to the capital account which now stands at £25,437. In the absence of the Most Bev. T. O’Shea, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Wellington and Metropolitan of New Zealand, the vice-chairman of the board, Mr. J. J. L. Burke, presid'd. Among tlrose present were the Rt. Rev. Monsignor Connolly, the Very Rev. Dr. Mcßae, Colonel J. G. Roache. Messrs. Carroll, Stratford and I*. D. Hoskins. The Sunday penny collection was reported to be the highest on record, having reached'tlie total of £150!), an increase of £lO5 over the. previous year's result. Functions and collections realized £B2B and interest from mortgages £740. In addition to this a property donated by the late Mr. G. Lambert realized £ISS and special donations £97. An anonymous donor contributed £2OO in honour of the silver jubilee of Archbishop O’Shea and tire silver jubilee of the education board. During the 26 years’ operation of the hoard £65,524 has been raised and £43.388 expended on the maintenance of 14 primary schools with an attendance of 2000 pupils and a staff of 50 teachers. The Sunday penny collection during this period has totalled £23.310.
The following officers were elected: Patron and chairman, Archbishop O’Shea; vice-chairman. Mr. J. J. L. Burke: treasurer, Colonel .1. G. Roache; secretary, Mr. P. D. Hoskins; ■auditors, Messrs W. H. Giles and -I". Stratford; trustees, the Very Rev. Dr. Mcßae', Colonel Roache, and Mr. J. J. L. Burke.
