N.Z. MALAY RUBBER COMPANY No Ordinary Dividend Dominion Special Service. e_ DUNEDIN, December 6. A sharp fall in net profit from £3674 to £950/1/- is reported in the twenty-eighth annual report and balance-sheet of the New Zealand Malay Rubber Uo., Ltd. No ordinary dividend is recommended, and a 4 per cent, payment is recommended on the 8 per cent, preference scrip. Owing to the reduced crop harvested on account of the restriction scheme, the allin cost was increased to 5.07 d. a lb., against 4.85 d. a lb. last year. Gross revenue from sales was £7511, compared with £8849 for the previous year. -Estate expenses, including depreciation on buildings and plant, amounted to £6490, leaving a net income from the estate of £lO2l, to which sums of £316 for exchange on remittances and £177 for interest on investments have to he added, making a total income of £1514. Against this there are Oarnaru expenses of £396, while provision for income tax is at £lOB. A sum of £6O is also provided for the new social security tax, which comes into operation for the first time next year. These items raise head office expenses to £564. The directors hope that an improvement during the year in the rubber position will -warrant payment of an interim dividend to bring the return up to the rates at which they were issued. WOOLWORTHS HOLDINGS Increase In Net Profit Woolworths Holdings. Ltd., a South African organization, reports a net profit of £67,180 for the year ended September 30, compared with £6V.003 in the previous yea r. Concentrator: Mill operated 336 hours and treated 45,615 tons’ ore. producing 2187 tons concentrates. Copper refinery: Tank house in operation throughout fortnight, 507 tons cathode copper produced for period. Total for current year 1978 tons.
