Lord Perth, British Ambassador in Rome, recently handed to Count Ciano, Italian Foreign Secretary, his new letters of credence addressed to King Victor Emmanuel as King of Italy and Emperor of Abyssinia. Britain thus recognized the Italian Empire and the Anglo-Italian Pact was declared to be in force on the same day. The picture shows Lord Perth arriving at the Palazzo Chigi in Rome, with Count Ciano (right), to sign the declaration declaring the pact in force.
