Lower Hutt has a wire-haired cross’ terrier, I’addy, which has made his friendships not with other dogs, but with the budgerigars of his owners, Mr and Mrs. IT. G. Moncrieff, V.I.C. corner. I’addy has a pride in his friendship, which he shows when anyone enters the room in which lie spends most of his time in the company of the birds. He gives a visitor, a vigorous nudge with his head and jumps on to the table specially provided for him near the birds’ cages. Then, in as near a manner as a dog can extend an imitation, lie asks one to look at the birds, one of which is his particular favotirI’addy came to Mr. and Mrs. Moncrietf as a stray 18 months ago; he is now two years old. The budgerigars were bought last Christmas. Immediately they came I’addy showed the greatest interest in them and lias never relaxed it. He sits for hours on the cheese box stool which is provided on his table, watching his favourite budgerigar his face pressed close against the wire of the bird cage. The budgerigars show no sign of nervousness —the favoured one chirps away at I’addy and lie wags his (ail in pleased response. When he is engaged watching this or the other budgerigars nothing will entice him away. He ignores a call: even a biscuit will not tempt him He knows strangers and endeavours witli all the wile he has to induce them to Inspect and take an interest in the birds. (Picture on Page !).)
