Band Helps Exhibition

“A public-spirited gesture and an excellent example,” was tlift comment of Mr. U. P. Ilainsworth, general manager of the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition Company, on a deed of tlie Port Nicholson Band. Tlie band volunteered its services for the ceremony connected with the laying of the exhibition foun-dation-stone. Although the directors knew that no payment was expected, they felt that some recognition of tlie band’s help should be made, and accordingly a sum was voted and a cheque was sent. The cheque was returned with a letter expressing appreciation of the directors’ attitude, lint stating Hie band’s preference to have the grant converted into shares in the Exhibition Company. “That is tlie kind of practical' goodwill which brings gladness to Hie directors and all associated witli them,” said Mr. Ilainsworth. "We feel sure Him similar goodwill exists in oilier quarter* and that it will find expression in a similar admirable wiry, it is the generous spirit in such conduct Hint assists importantly in assuring success for Hie great national enterprise."
