BY-ELECTION WON BY LABOUR
Close Fight At Dartford

LONDON, November 8.
The result of the Hartford (Kent) by election was declared today as follows: Mrs, Adamson (Labour), Hi,sl I voles; Mr. Mitchell (Conservative), 42,27(1 voles, n Labour gain. Sixtyeight. per cent, of the electorate voted. Mrs. Adamson said: "I won because the electors disapprove of the Government's foreign policy and are ashamed of Mr. Chamberlain's betrayal of Czechoslovakia and democracy.” Mi's. Adamson is the wife of the Labour member of the House of Commons, Mr. William Adamson. They are the only husband and wife in the House. Messrs. Alexander Monteith (National Liberal) and John Morgan (Labour) have been nominated for the Doncaster by-election, which lakes place on November 17.
