ANNUAL REUNION

St. Mary's College Old Girls' Association

Celebration of the annual reunion of Ihe old girls of St. Mary’s College, Wellington, began on Saturday, with a successful tenins party at the college in the afternoon. A very pleasant time was spent in ideal conditions and at the conclusion of the matches, the prizes were presented by Mother Gabriel in the absence of the Reverend Mother Claude.

At. night, more than 50 members of the old girls’ association attended the annual reunion dinner at the Empire Hotel, when Miss Nelle Scanlan, the well-known New Zealand novelist, was the guest of honour. The school colours, black and white, were used in streamers along the tables, and bowls of Iceland poppies added a vivid touch of colour.

The president of the association, Miss Mary Butler, introduced Miss Scanlan, an ex-pupil of the Convent of .Mercy, who made a very charming speech before dinner was served. Miss Scanlan wore a gown of black boucle with red shoulder spray and an ermine cape, and Miss Butler was wearing a frock of black georgette. Several toasts were honoured, the first being a joint, one, “The Pope and the King.” “The School” was proposed by Mrs. G. Villars, and replied to by Miss Kathleen Jansen, and “Tne Ohl Girls’ Association” was proposed by Miss Lucy O’Donoghue and replied to by Mrs. N. E. Gamble. , After dinner everyone assembled in the lounge where an enjoyable pro gramme was given by some of the old girls, including songs by Miss Kathleen Jansen and Mrs. M. J. Goodson, and monologues by Miss Mary Butler. Yesterday old girls attended Mass and Communion in the morning, the celebrant being the Rt. Rev. Msgr. T. F. Connolly. After Mass members of the old girls’ association gathered for a- reunion breakfast, and at the conclusion of the annual meeting in the college assembly hall In the afternoon, they were entertained by the sisters at afternoon tea.

Those who attended the celebrations included the president, of the old girls’ association, Miss Mary Butler, the vice-presidents, Mrs. C. L. Logan, Mrs. B. Weybourne, sen., Mrs. M. E. Gamble, Mrs. T. Casserley, Mrs. E. J. Peare, Miss A. Saunders, and Miss Edna Emerson, secretary.

Others present were Mesdamcs M. J. Goodson, E. Pegg, J. McClune. Carmody, E. O’Connor (Palmerston North), 11. Finlayson, AV. Dorman, E. Campbell, Hume, Cameron. G.
