Reference At Assembly
The desire of rhe Baptist denomination in New Zealand to play its part in the coming centennial celebrations, was stressed by speakers at Saturday morning’s session of the New Zealand Baptist Assembly in Wellington. The sum of £lOO was voted to the assembly for this purpose. The business session held on Saturday was not originally provided for in the agenda, but was found necessary because of the large amount of business to be got through. Most of the session was taken up with financial questions. It was decided to transfer £2OO from the union fund to the sustentation fund and to authorise augmentation of the stipends of married men to £250 per annum.
A grant of £lOO was made to tlie Greymouth Church to provide the minister, the Rev. F. A. Parry, with a motor-ear. It was explained that Mr. Parry was required to travel over 1000 miles a mon tin
On Saturday afternoon visiting delegates and their wives were taken in private cars for a 45 miles scenic drive around Wellington. Afternoon tea was served at the Lower Hutt Church, where the visitors were welcomed by the Rev. Hayes Lloyd. Thanks were expressed on behalf of the visitors by the union president, Mr. F. W. Horner. The day’s programme concluded with a musical festival on Saturday night, presented in the Vivian Street Church by the choirs of the combined Baptist Churchas of Wellington, assisted by local talent.
