Attack On A Train
From “The Dominion,” November 3, 1913.
A large number of flaxmill hands at Tokomaru, members of the Federation or Labour, attacked a tram which left lalmerston North containing about 100 special men and workers. They broke the windows of the carriages with bottles and stones, and put a platform harrow and a milk can across the line. The engine ran into and threw them aside and no damage was done.
The race for the Australian sculling championship, “The Referee” Challenge Cup and £2OO a side was rowed on rhe Parramatta River. James Paddon, the holder, led all the way and beat Richard Arnst, Sydney, by six lengths in 21min. 48sec.
William Le Queux, the novelist, isbanKrupt. His liabilities are £8857 and his assets £2683. He hopes to pay his debts iu full.
