COLLEGE ATHLETICS

St. Patrick’s College, Silverstream NEW RECORDS MADE The annual sports of St. Patrick’s College, Silverstream, were held at the college yesterday. There was a large attendance of visitors from all parts of the North Island. The heavy track was against the breaking of records in the flat events, but fresh records were made in the junior long jump and intermediate shot put events. The champions are: Senior distance champion and winner of the Ngaio Rafter Jlemorial Cup, Lady Ward Challenge Cup, F. Baker (Waipawa). Senior sprint champion and winner of the Gilbert Jlemorial Cup, Ward Challenge Cup, Garvey Cup, J. Quirk (Taihape). Senior high jump champion and winner of the Eivers Cup, L. Brennan (Opunake). Senior hurdles champion, E. Taripo (Rarotonga). Cups were won as follows: Bourke Cup, for the 50 yards dash, R. Bourke (Kilbirnie). Seymour Memorial Cup, foy the 100, 220 and 440 yards intermediate chutnpionships, Ransfleld (Otaki). JlcCarthy Challenge Cup, for the 100, 220 and 440 yards handicaps, Ransfleld (Otaki), and Whincop (Wellington), live points, equal.
