Taita Golf Club Dance The Eva Draper Studio, Bower Hutt, was decorated with trails of lycopodium and branches of punga fern, which contrasted pleasantly with the warm tints of the walls and electric-light shades for the Taita Golf Cjub dance on Saturday night. The committee consisted of Mr. B. Duncan (club captain), Mr. Gray-Dickie (secretary), Mrs. A- E. Dake, royal blue crepe de chine; Misses J. McMillan, gold satin; M. Beid, parchment figured matalasse; Messrs. A. Cooper, E. Collett, J. Piner, G. Dickie, and M. J. Bose.

The Hutt Valley High School Parents’ Association held a social evening in the Assembly Hall on Saturday. Mr. It. G. Cowie acted as master of ceremonies. Among those present were the principal, Mr. J. N. Millard, and Mrs. Millard, who wore a black marocain frock and diamante clasp. The committee consisted of Mrs. J. Mackissack, parma violet lace and taffeta coatee to tone; Mrs. R. Peel, black ring velvet and lace, and coral pink corsage: Mrs. F. Stanton, goldenbrown lace; Mrs. K. Barlow, green taffeta; Messrs. B. Noble, F. Treseder, J. Overton-Smith, R. Peel.

“Diggers’ ” Night. The social committee of the Dower Hutt sub-branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association entertained “diggers” and their wives and families at a social evening on Saturday. Mr. A. E. Pattinson, president of the Hutt Valley sub-branch, welcomed the guests and thanked the performers. He said a meeting of returned soldiers’ wives was to be held to consider

the future operations of the women’s club, which was recently amalgamated with the women’s auxiliary. Supper was provided by the committee. The following was the programme:—Vocal item, Miss J. Akers

and Miss Baker; Hungarian dance, Miss Barbara Dawson; elocutionary items, Mr. V. Smith and Master Nicholson; bird imitations, Mr. Hercombe. Mrs. Burgess was the accompanist, and Mr. F. Smith played for the dancing. The committee consisted of Mr. A. E. Pattinson and Mrs. Pattinson,. black and white; Mr. and Mrs. D. Annear, blue marocain; Mr. and Mrs. J. O’Meara, black and white; Mr. and .Mrs. E. Wilton, brown floral marocain; Mr. and Mrs. P. McNicol. bottle-green crepe de chine; Mesdames A. Robins, convener, brown floral marocain; F. Stedman, navy blue georgette; A. Hamilton, floral velvet; Messrs. Garrett. W.Toad, C. W. Whiteman, H. A. ’Taylor, and G. Page, who was the master of ceremonies. Staff Dance.

There was a large atendance at the Orange Hall, Petone, for the annual dance of the Petone branch of J. K. McKenzie Ltd. The dance was organised by the social clu'b. Miss Ivy Dewis was at the piano, and extras iwere played by Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Brownie. Mrs. H. G. Glover gave vocal items. The roTn.mil--tee consisted of Mr. White, chairman Miss Connie Silbery, secretary; Misses Pat Kelly, Ethel Rainsford and Jill Curten, Messrs Blair and Avison. Misses Rainsford, Robinson and Prestige add their partners won the competition dances.- Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Glover, Mrs. Inglis, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Brownie; Misses D. Mrs. E. D. Harland, Totara Crescent, Lower Hutt, has returned from Wanganui and Palmerston North.

Mr. and Mrs. S. Robertson, Wainui Road, Lower Hutt, who have been staying with Mr. and Mrs. J. Howie, St. John’s Hill, Wanganui, have returned home.
