DOUBLE HONOURS TO AV. GUEY
Ponekc Cycling Club JUNIOR RIDER’S SPLENDID PERFORMANCE The Poneke Amateur Cycling Club held a 25-mile combined senior and junior road race from Kaiwarra to Stokes Valley and back on Saturday. The field was small, consisting mainly of juniors, who, despite strong cross winds, recorded fast times. W. Guey, off 3min.. a junior who has been riding very consistently this season, snatched the decision from L. Jonasen (Bmin.) by half a wheel. He also gained fastest time. The limit men rode a good race, and looked likely to carry off the day’s honours until a hundred yards from the tape, when Guey joined them, and in an excellent sprint just snatched the race from Jonasen. Results were:— W. Guey (3min.), 67.24 1 Xi. Jonasen (Smin.), 72.24 1-5 .... 2 W. Tong (lOmin.), 74.24 2-5 3 Fastest times: — W. Guey (3min.), 67.24. T. Walsh (3min.), 67.50 1-5. A. Huxford (2min.), 69.22 1-5. PORT NICHOLSON CLUB The Port Nicholson Cycling Club held a 33-mile time trial and a 22-mile junior handicap race on Saturday. A sealed handicap was run in conjunction with the senior event. In the junior race J. Muncey had his first ride, and won a well-judged race. All the.riders rode well, and more should be heard of them in the Wellington championships to be held next week at Petone. Results:—Senior time trial: G. Arney, 1.30.53, 1; O. Disley, 1.35.6 4-5, 2; N. Gestro, 1.36.5, 3. Sealed handicap: N. Gestro (Smin.), 1.28.5, 1; G. Arney (ser.), 1.30,53, 2; A. Taylor (Smin.), 1.32.50, 3. Junior race: J. Afuncey (7min.), 1.14. 47, 1; S. Webber (scr.), 1.8.17 2-5, 2; E. Wagstaff (scr.), 1.8.17 3-5, 3. Next Saturday the club will race in the provincial senior and junior championships starting from Petone. Entries will close on Wednesday with the secretary. Club colours must be worn, and all cycles must have brakes and bells. CASH CLUB’S RACE Strong head winds made conditions unpleasant for riders in the Wellington Cash Cycling Club’s 25-mile road race ou> Saturday. The course was from the Grand National Hotel, Petone. to Trentham and return. W. Sinclair and H. Houston, scratch men, soon settled down; 200 yards from the post caught the limit men, A. Wright and R. Wakeham, and in a fine sprint Sinclair beat Houston by a length, with Wakeham 10 yards away third. Results were:—
