BLOMFIELD v. DETTON
Next Monday’s Wrestling
At the Wellington Town Hall next Monday there will be staged a wrestling bout for which Wellington followers of the sport have long been waiting, the return bout between Lofty Blomfield and Dean Detton. Ever siuce Detton, the immediate past: holder of the world title, arrived in tile Dominion there has been keen speculation as to how he would fare if matched with Blomfield, the Dominion champion. The first meeting of the pair was in Auckland, resulting in a win for Detton, but it did not satisfactorily settle the issue. Blomfield had levelled the falls by means of his octopus clamp and appeared to have Detton in a bad way when he was disqualified for what appeared to be no more than a technical breach of the rules. In the wrestling throughout the contest there was not a great deal between the two men, both giving brilliant displays of fast and aggressive wrestling. The results of recent matches in the Dominion "show that Detton and Blomfield are easily the most outstanding men in the country at present. Except for his reverse against Detton, Blomfield has been disposing of all opposition in highly convincing fashion, and his form has delighted his followers. All those who are conversant with the styles of the two men know that when they go into action there will be fast and exhilarating mat work from start to finish. Blomfield, in addition to his clamp, has many ways of disposing of his opponents, and Detton can be depended upon to make free use of his electrifying flying tackles and also keep, a keen look-out for a chance to use his celebrated step-over toe-hold. Jolting exchanges are also on the cards, and exchanges in this department will add greatly to the crowd’s enjoyment.
