Taxing Children
Sir, —Still another letter full of sob stuff about taxing children, no taxation without representation,' etc. As if they haven’t always been taxed; the only -vW thing is that it is done straight out. „ “The child” of 16 previously paid tax on his motor-cycle, on the benzine it usen, on the tyres it wore out, on the clothes •he bought, on his theatre ticket, and so on. All without representation. If those who talk like this would face the thing squarely they would say as t do, “Thank goodness the youth of this country are being taught a little thrift. And if it so happens in their old age that they have failed to become the millionaires they expect to be now, they at least "say. when they their superannuation, Well,, this is some omy own back—not charityl am, etc., Wellington, September 9.
