TERRITORIAL FORCE
4T A Recruiting Booklet
MINISTER’S APPEAL Recruiting for the territorial force, it is expected, will bo materially assisted by a 16-page booklet which has been issued by direction of the Minister of Defence, Hon. F. Jones, for general distribution. In it are briefly and clearly set out the conditions of training and particulars of uniforms, medals and badges, pay and allowances, and the functions of the various arms of the service. The booklet is well ilustra ted.
“It is encouraging,” states the Minister in a foreword, “to know that the territorial force is receiving the wholehearted support of all sections of the community. Much progress has been made in modernising army equipment, and this, together with increased rates of pay and the provision of full dress uniforms, makes service in the territorials an attractive proposition. There are still vacancies for men who are physically and mentally fit and who, In addition, possess the personality for leadership. In introducing this booklet to the citizens of the Dominion I hope it will be the means of making know tlie advantages of joining the territorial force and the benefits available for those who volunteer.” The booklet quotes an affirmation by the League of Nations Union in England “that the existence and maintenance of an efficient territorial army is In no wise incompatible with the aims of the League of Nations.” The peace establishment of the New Zealand Territorial Force, it. states, provides for the training of 9000 men. It is definitely not a case of “Every young man should be in the territorial force," but rather “None but the best are wanted in the territorial force.”
