FIRST BASEBALL SEASON
Wellington Association The annual meeting of the Wellington Baseball (Softball) Association was held on Wednesday evening. There were present delegates from 32 clubs, representing a total of 60 teams. The president, Mr. G. H. Bassant, referred to the progress made in the first year of the association’s existence. In the 12 months the game had started from nothing until it now was controlling the sport of 600 players and from the general feeling of the public before the playing season opened at least another 200 would be added to this number. The executive’s report and financial statement were road and the executive was congratulated by delegates on a sound financial position. The question of playing uniforms was discussed at length, and it was decided that, where the finances of the chibs permitted, the correct, baseball uniform was to be worn. It. was not the desire of the meeting that club finances should be strained by compulsory outfitting in the regulation costume. It was decided that for the corning season the affairs of the association would be controlled by an executive consisting of the officers of the association, one delegale from the umpires’ association, and six members elected at the meeting. The executive elected for the coming year was as follows: —President, Mr. G. 11. Bassant; secretary. Mr, A. R. Headifen; treasurer, Mr. G. Tristram : members of the executive, Messrs. A. Jenkins, C. Bristow, J. Fitzgerald, L. B. Wilson, J. Cameron, F. Dales.
A motion of appreciation was carried to the umpires’ association, the Press, the retiring executive. Mr. W, 11. Wilson. and those members who were responsible for the establishment of the game in the DominioiNlast year. A short outline of the progress made in other parts of New Zealand was given by the president of the New Zealand Baseball Council. Mr. A. Jenkins. The game is now Ireing played in all the main centres, and representative gaine.s between the provinces are looked forward to.
