EUROPEAN REFUGEES
Government Attitude To
Immigration Dominion Special Service. AUCKLAND, September 9. The attitude of the Government to the question of foreign immigrants is given in a letter received by the Auckland Chamber of Commerce from the Hon. W. Nash. The letter followed inquiries made to the chamber from European refugees as to the prospects of employment in New Zealand. Mr. Nash stated that, according to the Immigration Restriction Amendment Act, all persons not of British birth and parentage are required to make application for a permit and to forward a photograph and information on health and character. A decision is then made as to whether a permit would be granted. Full consideration to the merits of any particular case will be given, although the practice at present is to discourage the immigration of people nqt of British parentage.
