RACE-DAY PARKING ARRANGEMENTS

Four Streets At Trentham To Be Closed A conference regarding race-day carparking arrangements was held at Trentham on Saturday between the mayor, Mr. P. Robertson, and councillors ot Upper Hutt, the secretary of the Wellington Racing Cluib, Miss D. da. Bray, and) Messrs. E. Palliser and IV. A. .Sutherland, of the Automobile Association (Wellington). As a result the council agreed to clo*se CCawai and Totara Street, and Granville and Ararino Roads to parking on race days. . The arrangement is for a period ot one year. Other streets are not affected.

Upper Hutt Subdivision The members of the. Upper Hutt Borough Council on 'Saturday inspected the proposed John Street subdivision, and decided not to grant .permission to subdivide unless John Street were taken through to Ararino Road extension.

WAIRARAPA SCHOOLBOYS’ VISIT

Entertained By Y.M.C.A. Secondary schoolboys from the Masterton Y.M.C.A. were for three days the ,r uc£its of the members of the Hutt Valley Y.MXJ,A. during the term holidays. Hie visitors, in charge of Mr. A. E. Bate, general secretary of the Masterton Y.M.C.A., competed against the Hutt Valley boys 'in gymnasium, basketbal.. | handball, table tennis, indoor athletics, I and Rugby. The visitors were welcomed bv Mr A C. Edwards, secretary of the Hutt Valley Y.M.C.A. The outdoor athletics were cancelled' because of the wet state of the ground. A tour of inspection ol the Hutt railway workshops was made, aud the party was entertained at the theatre. , , The Rugby match played at the. Mutt Kecreation Ground resulted in a win Lor ' the Hutt Valley team by 27 points to .>. The scorers for the Hutt, team were Brettell (2). Beyinour (2), IMncher. To"" aud Parkin; Brettell converted two tries” and Nicholls one. Bor Masterton Munn scored a try. A visit to the Dominion Museum and a motor trip round the bays completed the programme.

CHILDREN’S PARTY AT EASTBOURNE

There were 100 children and many adults at a fancy-dress party organised by the Eastbourne and Day’s Bay branches of the New Zealand National Party and held lit the Masonic HalL Eastbourne, on Saturday. Miss Dewar, chairman of tie Eastbourne Women's Committee, was the organist and Mrs. J. W. Andrews and Mrs. J. Mitchel, wives of the mayor and deputy-jiiayor of Lower Hutt respectively, were the judges of the fancy costumes. Results were: Best pair; Roxine Beveridge ami Denis Foley (robin redbreast) : most original. Margaret Tyndall (brown paper parcel), Lois Johnson * ( mad about music”) ; special prize-winners, Amm Gimblett ("Alice Blue Gown ). Patricia Torlesse (rose). Jean bharpe (powder puff) ; othpr prize-winners, John Hanton (Chinese), Desmond Beveridge (pirate), Robert Bennett (butcher), Grace Wise (military), Dawu Hill (Prince Charging), Lorraine Wise (Pompadour). Julian Mather (shepherdess), PaMv Mead (toy soldier), Jean McDonald (flower girl), Inn Torlesse (.JJtiiSKian). Competitions were won by Mrs. D. Hoggard, Mrs. E. Turner, Mrs. R. IVarliurton and Jenifer Gilbert.

A successful (social evening in aid of Hie forthcoming Methodist bazaar was held at Ihe home of Mrs. 11. Smith, !<• tarn Creseenl, Lower Unit, recently. J he hostesses were Mrs. C. IV inslade. convener. Mrs. I’. Teasdill and Mrs. Andrew*. The evening passed pleasantly with games and competitions. Hay spring flowers were used in decoration.
